History will look back on his presidency as extraordinary in the light and goodness of what he has brought, and the legacy he leaves, a blueprint for us to follow and to build upon. History will also in time look back on virulence of forms of opposition to his presidency as rooted in ignorance and unconsciousness, and on the the willingness of some to some to undermine civility and respect, or to , cleverly sow seeds of untruth and disunity, in order to gain or maintain power. Nevertheless, as President Obama often quoted from Martin Luther King: “'The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.'"
The NY Times Editorial: The Optimism of Barack Obama is a fitting tribute to a President who has established as precedent,
qualities of speech, character, and policy that we can emulate as we
move into the future.

His farewell speech outlines the challenges before us, as a blueprint into the future, and underlines his abiding trust in, and knowing of, the deeper goodness that is what is most true within us as Americans. https://www.nytimes.com/…/obama-farewell-address-speech.html
We can continue call to mind what he has given to us, and return to this, as we strive to help bring about the vision he articulates, in the days to come. We can continue the work he has done of building upon the foundations given to us from the time of the Founding Fathers, the time of Lincoln and Roosevelt and the other great presidents, as we step forward into the future. Even if at present there is a headwind of opposition this goodness, we carry within us the history of the good that has been created in our country and that President Obama has led with, and from, over the past eight years.
This legacy is there for us to draw upon, as it lives within us, just as the living breathing documents of our founding in America live within us. The arc of history bends toward what is good and right and true and decent, promising and hopeful. Bless you, President Barack Obama, for embodying this truth, and carrying this truth forward in your presidency ofer the past eight years. If there were such a thing as a “Citizens Medal of Freedom”, then millions and millions of us give this to you, to honor you with our profound gratitude for your service to the ideals that live deepest within our hearts as Americas.
Bless you President Barack Obama.
Thank you.
