Robert Kennedy's speech on June 6, 1966 "Ripple of Hope".
Today is the 50th anniversary of Robert Kennedy's speech on June 6, 1966, to a student group in South Africa. It is known now as the "Ripple of Hope" speech, in which in he said: "Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." These words are eternal, and their truth can guide us today, and inspire us, just as they inspired many at that time - for each and every act, and even every thought and prayer, that is on behalf of an ideal, of service, or of addressing injustice, however seemingly small or big, makes a difference in the collective consciousness of the world. It is how the world changes, one gesture of goodness as a time, seen or unseen. Everything matters. When we act knowing that everyone matters, and everything matters, from that place we help that reality come into being in the world.
